Why not come to Belgium with your ecommerce business?

Hi all,

Today I had a very interesting talk with a key account manager at one of our biggest logistics compagnies in Belgium. We at DHL Express Belgium, are positioning ourselves within the e-com marketplace. Networking and cross selling will be a important activity in order to penetrate and look for synergies in  this huge market.
Looking at our opportunities today...

Europe and the rest of the world : an interesting growing ecommerce market

Around the world: opportunities for online retail (DHL Express)

Belgium has got what it takes:

  • central location within Europe
  • a dense and international transport infrastructure
  • know how of the business and experienced logistic parties
  • fifth in the European Digital economy and society index
  • multilingual and motivated staff
  • efficient airports and linehaul
  • a culture of "entrepreneurs"
conclusion :Belgium has got what it takes  to become an "E-com valley"

We need to work on:

  • More flexible  legislation for nightwork . In Belgium our workers cost 20% more than in the neighbor countries.
  • Need for specific skills & competenties such as traffic manager, manager referencing etc
  • Unequal taks rules for foreign and Belgian compagnies (VAT, taxes and excises)
  • Need for a innovative payment system (cfr Ideal in te Netherlands)
  • Same rules for everyone (eg product safety, Belgian compagnies are more controles than foreign companies)
  • cross border strategy: attract important ecommerce players and encourage sales from Belgium toward the rest of the world

What is at stake?: 36.000 jobs in Belgium , due to growth of online purchases and the share of wallet of websites from abroard.

Customs Services: Handover to Broker benefits customers with specific customs clearance arrangements

Some of our customers (especially large companies) may receive international shipments on a regular basis delivered by several different logistics providers. In this situation they may prefer to have a single customs broker performing all their clearance instead of the carrier. To support this requirement, DHL can initiate the Handover to Broker procedure.
