Rapid growth opportunities are encouraging DHL Express to dramatically
extend its network in The Netherlands. The planned investment of €45million is
the company's largest in its 40 year history in the country. DHL Express is
renovating and expanding existing service centers and will be building seven new
facilities.
Announcing the multi-million Euro investment plans at DHL's headquarters at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, Michiel Greeven, Managing Director DHL Express Netherlands told journalists, "We are already the market leader in the Netherlands and this major investment is needed to accommodate our strong growth. Today we are handling three times as many shipments as we did in 2005 and expect to double our volumes again over the next decade."
Investment drives innovation
In order to accomplish this, the investment is aimed at improving quality and efficiency through innovation. For example, in the new Utrecht service center automatic sorting systems are being introduced at the expanded 2,500 sqm facility. These will simultaneously increase capacity and productivity. Utrecht will be the base for 130 DHL Express employees, including drivers for 60 delivery vans and a dozen bicycle couriers.
